Background
Ms. Sophia Poulos is a 2016 engineering graduate from Smith College with a B.S. degree in General Engineering and a 2017 graduate from the University of California Davis with an M.S. degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis. She is a registered professional engineer in Colorado. Her structural design experience has had a primary focus on structural materials testing and analysis of concrete failures, with a secondary focus on rehabilitation and repair design work for existing wood, concrete, and steel structures.
After graduation, Ms. Poulos gained experience in structural material testing in both lab and field settings. She managed a material testing and special inspection lab and oversaw the testing of concrete, asphalt, steel, soil, and aggregates in accordance with ASTM standards. This led her to focus her work on testing of cementitious materials and concrete petrography.
Ms. Poulos has also worked extensively on the repair and modernization of existing structures. She has led condition assessment investigations for parking structures, balconies, building envelopes, and roof observations for both single- and multi-family residential and commercial structures. While she has had a primary focus on the repair designs for concrete failures, she has assisted in the design of new roof coverings and building envelope systems.
