Dr. Rahman received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He has extensive collaborative research experience in multiple areas of biomechanical and biomedical engineering both in academic and industrial environment settings. His research broadly focused on orthopedic biomechanics, computational modeling of the human musculoskeletal system, multibody dynamics, finite element analysis, orthopedic and cardiovascular medical device development, human movement, and medical image processing and computing.
Dr. Rahman’s doctoral studies on musculoskeletal elbow joint biomechanics created a foundation in the computational analysis-based orthopedic research, which has led to novel characterizations of joint kinematics and the development of the patient-specific surgical procedure. He has performed biomechanical analyses on human subjects, animal models, and tissue specimens during both live and cadaveric testing with biomedical instrumentation and used mathematical and computational models to characterize the results. He has also significantly contributed in developing world-class commercial knee implants and artificial lung devices. Dr. Rahman has published his research in several high-profile journals in the field of orthopedics and human movement and presented at numerous national/international conferences proceedings.
Dr. Rahman’s primary areas of consulting expertise include injury assessment by biomechanical analysis, vehicle accident reconstruction, and medical device failures. As a forensic engineer, he performs biomechanical analysis on cases involving low- and high-speed accidents, rollovers, pedestrian and cyclists, falling objects, head injury, slip/trip and falls, and occupational accidents by using both computer and physical models.
