Background

Mr. Thomas Yap holds a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and an MBA from the University of Houston-Victoria. In addition, he is a registered professional engineer in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Oklahoma, and Texas, with over 2 decades of experience as a Mechanical Engineer. Thomas specializes in complex analysis for energy systems and sustainable practices. His background includes industrial areas such as onshore and offshore oil and gas, drilling manifolds, crane technology, hydrogen, and nuclear energy. He is also currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Energy Engineering at the University of North Dakota which helps deepen his technical knowledge and equips him with critical skillsets for forensic analysis. His research, problem-solving abilities, and interdisciplinary exposure contribute significantly to his expertise in this specialized field.

Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Yap has held key roles in leading companies such as General Electric Hitachi, Nel Hydrogen, Cameron (Schlumberger Company), Forum Energy Technology, Loadmaster, and Favelle Favco Cranes. With a diverse technical acumen, Mr. Yap possesses expertise in industrial plant design, lifting equipment and machinery design, hydraulic circuit design, welding inspection, and adherence to industry standards such as AWS, API, and ASME codes including ABS CDS, ASME B30.23, AISC, API 2C, API 4F, API 8C, API 9A, API RP-2D, API 6A, API 16C, API 1104, API STD 53, NACE, ASME B16.34, B31.1, B31.3, B31.8, ASME Section III & VIII, ANSI, ABS, and DNV. He is experienced in the design of lifting equipment, tower cranes and offshore pedestal cranes, and hydraulic equipment which highlights his comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems and their applications. He is proficient in complex systems such as Offshore Cranes & Choke and Kill Manifolds according to API standards, as well as mechanical systems for hydrogen electrolyzer containers, pressure equipment, and hydraulic circuits. As a certified welding inspector, he assesses compliance with AWS and API standards.
