Background
Mr. Mark O’Connell holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and is a registered professional structural engineer in Texas, Louisiana, South Carolina, Maine, and Florida. He has extensive professional experience and specializes in structural design and analysis of a wide variety of manufacturing and heavy industrial facilities.
Throughout his career, Mr. O’Connell has served as the lead civil structural engineer and manager responsible for the design and processing of plans for projects of all sizes. Mr. O’Connell formerly served as the forest products civil/structural/architectural department manager for an international engineering and construction firm. In this role, he provided client coordination, prepared designs, interpreted and implemented building code requirements, prepared final calculations, supervised the preparation of final design documents and construction drawings, assisted clients’ interface with building code officials and fire marshals, and coordinated civil/structural “startup” activities at a number of job sites. He has also conducted numerous field investigations for rehabilitation and renovation projects and has varied design experience in both hot and cold climates.
As a forensic engineer, Mr. O’Connell conducted inspections and evaluations and provided recommendations for recovery on numerous residential, commercial, and industrial projects. He’s also conducted numerous hurricane damage surveys, conducted roof investigations for wind and hail damage, assessed properties for flood-related distress, evaluated the structural causes of multiple roof collapses, and assessed many damage cases involving construction vibrations and blasting. He has implemented and managed many water source cause and origin investigations for a variety of residential and commercial building envelopes. In addition, Mr. O’Connell has investigated many fire-damaged and explosion-damaged facilities for structural integrity and extent of damage. Further, Mr. O’Connell is a Certified EIFS Inspector and has evaluated multiple EIFS and stucco building envelopes for construction defects and moisture intrusion. He has also served as an expert witness on a number of cases.
