Joaquin Marquez, Ph.D., P.E.
Consultant
Los Angeles / Irvine, Los Angeles / Riverside, Los Angeles / Woodland Hills, San Diego
Background
Dr. Joaquin Marquez holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Structural Engineering and a B.S. in Civil Engineering with a structural engineering emphasis. Over his career, he has performed structural analysis, seismic evaluation and structural design, retrofit design of existing structures, new building design, and construction in commercial projects. Additionally, Dr. Marquez has performed forensic investigations including damage assessments of residential claims related to soil issues, tree fall impact damage, earthquake-related damage, vehicle impact, water intrusion, and retaining walls. He has forensic experience in commercial projects, adjacent construction claims, construction deficiencies, cost damage assessments, and government projects. Dr. Marquez has experience with an international arbitration case consisting of providing structural analysis and design assessment for a fatal bridge collapse.
Dr. Marquez specializes in performance-based earthquake engineering design, nonlinear modeling, and analysis of various structural systems. He has investigated the quality of the design for structures resulting in damage due to deficiencies. Dr. Marquez provides state-of-the-art engineering analysis and investigative techniques, including high-fidelity finite element modeling.
Dr. Marquez also has experience in performing structural designs including deep pile foundations, shallow footings, brace design for the expansion of a Los Angeles International Airport terminal, concrete slab designs, concrete column design, and reinforced concrete beam design.
