Background
Mr. Octavio Oliu is a graduate of the University of Miami with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. He is a registered professional engineer with 50 years of experience in electrical design, fire alarms, low-voltage systems, construction defect claims, and construction administration of residential, commercial, industrial, and healthcare projects. In addition, he has extensive field experience in actual electrical installations from his early years as a journeyman and master electrician in Miami-Dade County.
Mr. Oliu is also a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) through the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI). He is bilingual (English and Spanish) and is familiar with the National Electric Code, the NFPA 72, 101, and 110 standards, the Florida Building Code, and the International Building Code and design procedures. He is also trained in the design and installation of ambulatory/outpatient medical centers.
He has been working in the electrical forensics field since 2008, specializing in the investigation of electrical equipment failures, electrical and structural fires, automotive and marine vessel fires, corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST) fires, and electrical shock and electrocution incidents. He also performs assessments and analysis of lightning damage, power surges, hydraulic and cable-type elevators, building code issues, engineering design and construction defects, small appliance defects, home appliance failures, cable damage, wiring damage/defects, vandalism and water damage to electrical equipment, as well as electrical construction standard of care cases. In addition, he provides legal deposition and court testimony in support of technical findings as needed.
