Background

Along with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Eugene Lopez-Oña is a registered professional engineer in 44 states and Washington, D.C. He has over 14 years of experience and is skilled at applying his extensive background in mechanical engineering and materials analysis to consult with insurance companies, industrial clients, public entities, and for litigation support to provide evidence-based conclusions and opinions.

Mr. Lopez-Oña has provided consulting services for construction defects and product liability with a focus on evaluating manufacturing and installation defects.  He has investigated product defects for domestic water loss and industrial contamination events. He is experienced in determining manufacturing defects in metal and plastic components.  His experience includes mechanical testing and the material characterization of steel, copper, aluminum alloys, brass, and plastics. He has reviewed codes and specifications in several industries and developed several material specifications for oil field equipment manufacturers.

He has extensive experience evaluating components and facilities for reported damage due to lightning strike or power surge.  He has evaluated engine, fuel system, and brake failures on many passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, and industrial equipment for the causes of failure.

His heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); mechanical; and plumbing system investigation experience includes single-family residences, multi-family buildings, commercial, high-rise commercial and residential, hotels, restaurants, and colleges.  He has evaluated refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, and water heaters.  He has evaluated water damage claims representing several millions of dollars in exposure.

He has training for and has evaluated dishwashers, dryers, and water heaters for fire cause determination.  He has evaluated wheelchairs, garage doors, heavy machinery, oil rigs, manlifts, forklifts, and components from well heads.

Mr. Lopez-Oña’s unique combination of experience and background allows him to provide a full spectrum of expertise from origin and cause to mechanical system, product, and materials failure analysis.
