What kinds of cases or matters do you most often work on, and what makes you the right person to handle them?
I work on Subcontractor Default Insurance matters and also focus on schedule delay analysis. I bring a wealth of experience on multimillion and billion dollar projects encompassing several sectors like residential, energy, transportation, healthcare, commercial and higher education. My industry experience makes me a go-to advisor on several matters within the construction space.
What is one assumption people commonly make in your area of expertise, and what’s the reality?
They assume that construction expertise is not transferrable. However, I have not found that to be the case. The reality is, if you have worked in industrial construction, for example, the expertise is transferrable to data center construction. That is because the quantitative skills, client interaction, and technological expertise are related and applicable. In another example, scheduling expertise can be universally applied to any project type in construction. A well-versed delay expert can adapt to any type of construction scheduling challenge.
Tell us about a recent case or project where your specific expertise made a measurable difference to the outcome.
I was engaged as a scheduling expert on a semiconductor research laboratory on an air force base that had a 60-calendar day delay, related to re-work due to differing site conditions. When they brought me in, I immediately triaged the schedule and created a re-baseline schedule with the support of contemporaneous project records and the project team. Once the re-baseline was established, we were able to get approval for the schedule and get the project back on track. This resulted in the avoidance of costly damages associated with that initial 60-calendar day delay.
What questions should clients be asking when they’re vetting an expert in your field — and what answers should they be looking for?
In the case of construction claims, the client should be asking if the expert:
What separates a strong engagement in your area from a weak one, from your perspective as the expert?
A strong engagement uses objective testing rather than subjective bias where the expert just advocates for the client. Subjective bias is influenced by personal experiences, emotions and views. Objectivity relies on factual, unbiased and measurable analysis.
