Senior Toxicologist

Forensic Services

Phoenix

Background

Dr. Ann Tobin is board-certified in general toxicology, as a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT), and as a European Registered Toxicologist (ERT). Dr. Tobin completed post-doctoral fellowships in clinical chemistry and toxicology, and forensic toxicology director training. She holds a doctorate in pharmacology and toxicology, a master’s degree in chemistry, and a bachelor’s degree in biology. Dr. Tobin has obtained over 19 years of non-clinical toxicology, clinical toxicology, forensic toxicology, pharmacology, clinical chemistry, laboratory medicine, and biomedical science experience.

Dr. Tobin has broad-based training and extensive laboratory leadership experience in therapeutic drug monitoring (clinical toxicology), as well as in workplace drug testing and post-mortem cases (forensic toxicology). Dr. Tobin has expertise in the non-clinical toxicology of medical devices and nutraceuticals. She was responsible for projects in biocompatibility and toxicological risk assessment that involved developing testing strategies and writing a Biological Evaluation Plan and Report (BEP and BER), reviewing chemical characterization reports for extractables and leachables data, and utilizing in silico chemical structure-activity software, managing gap assessments, in addition to assessing relevant regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, Eu MDR, ISO 10993).

As part of the Rimkus Toxicology and Food Safety practice group, Dr. Tobin works cases related to general toxicology and toxic tort, toxicology of drugs and pharmaceuticals (including questions of impairment), clinical toxicology, medical devices, pre-clinical testing, human health assessment and hazard analysis, specifically for obscure chemicals, and assessment of potential hazard from nutraceuticals and emerging contaminants, food supplements and additives.
