Background

Mr. Michael Pavero is a retired Senior Homicide Detective Grade 1 from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Major Case Squad in Washington, D.C. He has over 27 years of law enforcement investigation and experience. During his career at MPD, he had special assignments in the US Secret Service Fraud Task Force and retired as a full-time Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)Task Force Officer. Mr. Pavero was assigned to the DC/ATF Arson and Explosives Task Force for over 13 years.

While in this role, Mr. Pavero was involved in investigating over 700 structure, vehicle fire, and self-immolation fires and explosion incidents. He was responsible for the investigation of fire-related (criminal and non-criminal) critical injuries and deaths (approximately 200). Additionally, he was responsible for fire and non-fire crime scene management, evidence collection, and the processing of burned vehicles used in homicides and other violent crimes.  While with the Arson and Explosives Task Force, Mr. Pavero provided hands-on technical assistance, training, and guidance to other agencies in the National Capitol area.

Mr. Pavero has worked closely with multiple fire, law enforcement, medical examiner, and government agencies as well as the ATF Fire Research and Forensic Lab. In addition to his extensive law enforcement training, he is a Proboard and International Association of Arson Investigators Certified Fire Investigator – Vehicle Endorsement, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress Fire Inspector I and II, police-trained Crime Scene Technician, Firefighter II, and Juvenile Fire Setter Specialist I. He was previously licensed as a Paramedic. He has provided multiple testimonies in federal and local court, including grand jury, preliminary hearings, and at trial.
