Background
Dr. Michael Teater received a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. His primary areas of consulting expertise include injury causation biomechanics, vehicle accident reconstruction, and occupant motion.
Dr. Teater has experience assessing the dynamics and biomechanics involved in motor vehicle accidents, slip/trip and fall events, workplace incidents, and recreational injuries. His education, research, training, and previous consulting experience allow him to evaluate the forces and motions experienced by individuals in these events and, thus, determine the consistency of claimed injuries with the dynamics of the event in question. Dr. Teater has completed Institute of Police Technology and Management traffic crash investigation courses and is also a Bosch-certified Crash Data Retrieval Technician.
Dr. Teater’s doctoral research focused on how limb stiffness and between-limb asymmetry parameters during athletic landings are affected by previous anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery, gender, and type of landing task. He has helped conduct in varying capacities a number of other injury prevention and rehabilitation research projects pertaining to the development of a predictive model for second ACL injury using baseline clinical assessment, between-limb asymmetry gait assessment before and after total ankle arthroplasty surgery, the effect of varying floor stiffness on limb stiffness during overground walking, and validation of a markerless motion capture system. Through his research, Dr. Teater has become an expert in collecting, processing, and analyzing pertinent biomechanical data of individuals during a variety of movement tasks using three-dimensional marker- and markerless-motion capture systems, instrumented force plates, and wireless pressure sensor insoles.
