The Rimkus Materials Testing and Investigation team offers a wide variety of professional materials testing, analysis, and laboratory services, specializing in failure analysis, corrosion investigation, and welder/welding procedure qualifications. Through comprehensive failure analysis, our team can help identify the causes of material failures, solve complex material problems, and make recommendations to prevent future recurrence.
Using advanced analytical equipment and techniques, our materials experts can interpret test results quickly and accurately to provide clients with a detailed plan of action. We serve a growing range of industries worldwide including Motorsports, Automotive Manufacturing, Plumbing (Water Systems), Marine, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Production, Power Generation and Utilities, Heat Exchangers, and Boilers.
Rimkus has made significant investments in new, cutting-edge equipment to extend our Materials Testing and Investigation services to include plastics/polymers and additive manufacturing testing. The following enhancements allow us to deliver more comprehensive and precise testing solutions for our clientele:
- Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)
- Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA)
- Additional Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
- In situ field materials testing equipment
During a NASCAR race, an ultra-high-strength steel transmission input shaft fractured after approximately 250 miles. The Rimkus Materials Testing and Investigation team was tasked with evaluating the cause of the fracture. To help determine the cause of failure, we completed a series of analytical tests and analyses including visual and stereoscopic examinations, metallography/microstructure evaluation, scanning electron microscope examination, chemical composition analysis, and Rockwell hardness testing.
